Business details and VAT in Modulus: osek patur, osek murshe or company
Updated Available on every plan
Short answer
In Modulus you enter your business details under Settings → Business and invoicing → Business identity: business type (osek patur, osek murshe or company), legal name, tax ID, email, phone and address, and they’re required before the store goes live. An exempt dealer (osek patur) charges no VAT and issues receipts only; a licensed dealer (osek murshe) or company charges VAT (18% by default) and issues a tax invoice-receipt or a tax invoice.
Fill in your business details
Step 1: Open your business details
Where: Settings›Business and invoicing›Business identity
Step 2: Choose your business type
Under "Business type": Osek murshe, Osek patur, Company or Other. To go live, choose one of the first three.
Step 3: Fill in the details and save
"Legal business name", "Tax ID", "Business email", "Business phone" and "Business address" (address, city, postal code and country). Click "Save Changes".
Osek patur or osek murshe: what changes in Modulus
| Exempt dealer (osek patur) | Licensed dealer (osek murshe) or company | |
|---|---|---|
| VAT at checkout | No VAT is charged | The store’s tax rate (18% by default) |
| Document for each paid order | Receipt only | Tax invoice-receipt (default) or tax invoice |
| Credit invoice on a refund | Not issued: handle the refund in the invoicing service | Issued automatically against the original invoice |
The business type also sets what you can choose on the invoicing page: for an exempt dealer the choice is locked, with "An exempt dealer (עוסק פטור) issues receipts only, so every order gets a receipt."
VAT at checkout and VAT-inclusive prices
- A new Israeli store starts with the tax rate "Israel VAT" 18%, applied to shipping too.
- "Prices include tax" (Settings → VAT and taxes → Tax pricing) decides whether VAT is worked out of the displayed price or added at checkout. In a store in shekels or in Hebrew it’s on by default, as is usual in Israel.
- Documents issued in the invoicing service are marked to match: prices with VAT included or before VAT. The invoicing service does the VAT calculation on the document.
Where else the details are used
- Going live: business type and business details are required steps on the launch checklist.
- Invoices: without a name, tax ID, email, phone, address, city and country, no document is issued until you fill them in.
- Payments: the Payments screen asks "Who’s getting paid?" and saves the same details.
- Your store: the name, business number and address appear in the store footer.
Frequently asked questions
Can an exempt dealer (osek patur) sell on Modulus?
Yes. Choose "Osek patur" in your business details: Modulus charges no VAT at checkout, and every paid order gets a receipt.
What VAT rate does Modulus charge?
An Israeli store starts with 18% VAT, applied to shipping too. An exempt dealer charges no VAT at all.
Why can’t I go live with business type "Other"?
The business type decides which documents are issued and whether VAT is charged, so going live needs osek patur, osek murshe or company.
Do I need a separate VAT number?
No. In Israel the business number (osek or company number) is also the VAT registration number, and it’s the only one Modulus asks for.
