How to edit your store with the AI assistant in Modulus

Updated Available on every plan

Short answer

In Modulus you edit your store in the editor: tell the AI assistant what to change (text, images, sections, pages, colors and fonts) and the change goes into your draft right away, or click any text, image or section and edit it by hand. Changes to prices, products and categories happen only after you approve them, and the design reaches the store only when you click "Publish".

Edit with the assistant

  1. Step 1: Open the editor

    Where: Edit store

The button is at the top of the admin menu. The editor is also under Content → Site Editor.

  2. Step 2: Open the assistant and say what to change

    Where: Assistant

For example: "Swap the main image for something brighter", "Add an FAQ section", "Make the buttons rounded". To change one section, click it and choose "Edit with AI".

  3. Step 3: Check the change in your draft

Design changes go into the draft right away, and the chat shows "Design changes (draft)" with an "Undo" button.

  4. Step 4: Publish

    Where: Publish

Until you publish, shoppers see the previous design.

Editing by hand

  • Text: click any text on the page and type.
  • Images, buttons and sections: click them and edit in the side panel. Replace an image by uploading, from the library or from store photos.
  • Sections: on the "Sections" tab, move, duplicate, hide or delete sections, and add new ones with "Add section".
  • Theme: on the "Theme" tab, set colors, fonts, corners, button style, spacing and page width.
  • Preview: switch between desktop, tablet and mobile.

Saving, undo and versions

  • Autosave: there’s no save button. Every change is saved as a draft within a second, and the status line reads "Draft saved · not live yet".
  • Undo: "Undo" and "Redo" (or ⌘/Ctrl+Z) up to 80 steps back.
  • Discard: throws away everything unpublished and returns to the live design.
  • Versions: every publish keeps the previous design. In "Versions", click "Restore" to load one into the editor; it goes live on your next publish.

Frequently asked questions

Does chatting with the assistant use credits?

No. Assistant messages don’t use credits; they have a monthly allowance (50 messages a month on Free). A whole new design and AI-generated images use credits, and the Free plan includes 3 design rounds.

Can the assistant change prices without me knowing?

No. Changes to prices, products, categories and shipping show up as a card and happen only after you click "Apply".

How do I go back to an earlier design?

In the editor, click "Versions" and choose "Restore" on the version you want. It loads into the editor and goes live on your next publish. To throw away unpublished changes, click "Discard".

Can I ask the assistant for things beyond design?

Yes. The store admin has an "AI Assistant" that also helps with products and discounts, such as drafting products or creating a discount code. Design requests there lead to the editor with an "Open in editor" button.
